Hats, a Kayak and smiling faces – at the Family Expo, Charleston, SC
Saturday, March 8, 2013
The community of Charleston welcomed in today the first Family Expo at the Charleston Convention Center, and A Backpack Journalist was there with the “two Katies” taking portraits with our hats and dress up clothing and a special group of Charleston Museum garments and hats! Then there was our kayak that the kids really loved sitting in! And a visit by the RiverDogs Mascot – Charlie to our booth!
An observation, kids picking up a hat generally spoke to their own personal fun times, or perhaps a wish or dream? Example, there was a young man who stepped up and immediately asked for the explorer hat. Or, with a patch over their eye and the pirates hat. Then, another the bright blue sparkly.
We had girls reach for the crown, the top hat or the wide brim hat that so many love as it provides a way to peek out? And shown here is a young girl with the courage to reach for the Viking Hat.
Then there was the kayak and many could not wait to sit into the seat, and pretend. Special thanks to Nature Adventures Outfitters for helping out, and also bringing a touch table with them, and the paddles and kayak.
A selection of photographs are now on line, and they include highlights of some of the other booths. Thanks to Coke for the refreshments, and must say – the chocolate booth was often visited.
The Family Expo had a stage with ongoing events throughout the day – and that included bringing in a Disney Channel “star” and a fashion show and lots and lots of dancing in the afternoon.
For us – it was spending time taking portrait photos of the youth and sometimes family members who stopped to visit!
