Once Again Vietnam Veterans Answer the Call
South Carolinians working to record the memories of Vietnam Veterans’ homecoming experiences.
WHY: We are seeking Vietnam Veterans as part of the Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War. The Veterans who fought the Vietnam War possess a unique perspective on one of the pivotal events of the twentieth century. By recording their memories of the journey home and transition to life after Vietnam, we hope to preserve their individual perspectives on one of the most tumultuous periods in American History.
WHO: The South Carolina Military Museum and Team Backpack Journalists, supported by a generous grant from the Gregory Electric Company.
WHAT: Student journalists from Team Backpack Journalists interview Vietnam Veterans at locations throughout the state and record the Veteran’s homecoming and transition experiences. The video interviews will be combined into a documentary film which will be premiered on Veterans Day 2016 at the South Carolina Military Museum in Columbia and sites around the state. After initial screenings, the South Carolina Military Museum will exhibit the documentary to enable scholarship and public awareness of these important stories for current and future generations.
